Candidate must live in Aurelius Township and have been a registered voter for 30 days prior to appointment. Interviews will be conducted in an open meeting by the Board of Trustees. To continue as Treasurer, the successful candidate must run for election in 2022.
Duties: Statutory duties include collects real & personal property taxes; keeps an account of township revenues and disbursements. Must make deposits of township revenues; and invests township funds. Must appoint a Deputy. Will work with BS&A software and governmental accounting. Treasurer is a member of the Township Board of Trustees and must attend monthly township board meetings. Treasurer is also a member of the Township Elections Commission.
Salary: Salary $35,000

ORDINANCE NO. 39.13
PREAMBLE
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AURELIUS TOWNSHIP’S ZONING ORDINANCE, NO. 39, CHAPTER 16, ARTICLE II, DIVISION 4, SECTION 16-117, RELATING TO ZBA MEMBERSHIP AND CERTAIN PARTICIPATION IN PUBLIC HEARING OR VOTING PROHIBITED; AND TO REPEAL ANY ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREOF; AND TO PROVIDE AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF.
The Township of Aurelius, Ingham County, Michigan, ordains:
SECTION 1. PURPOSE.
The purpose of this Ordinance is to amend Aurelius Township’s Zoning Ordinance, No. 39, by amending Chapter 16 – “Zoning,” Article II, Division 4, “Administration and Enforcement,” Section 16-117, “Membership, compensation and removal,” to permit a member of the Board of Trustees to serve as a member of the Board of Appeals, revise removal of a member, and prohibit certain participation in public hearing or voting on the same matter that the member voted on as a member of the Planning Commission or the Board of Trustees.
SECTION 2. AMENDMENT OF SUBSECTIONS 16-117(B) “MEMBERSHIP.”
Subsection 16-117(b) of the Code of Ordinances, Aurelius Township, Michigan, shall be and are hereby amended to read as follows:
(b) Membership. The Zoning Board of Appeals shall consist of five (5) members appointed by the Board of Trustees. The term of each member shall be for three (3) years. Members selected shall be representative of the population distribution and of the various interests present in the Township.
One (1) regular or alternate member of a Zoning Board of Appeals may be a member of the Board of Trustees. Such a member shall not serve as chairperson of the Zoning Board of Appeals. An employee or contractor of the legislative body may not serve as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals. One (1) member of the Board of Appeals shall be a member of the Township Planning Commission.
The Township Board may appoint not more than two (2) alternate members for the same term as regular members of the Zoning Board of Appeals. An alternate member may be called as specified to serve as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals in the absence of a regular member, if the regular member will be unable to attend one (1) or more meetings. An alternate member may also be called to serve as a member for the purpose of reaching a decision on a case in which the member has abstained for reasons of conflict of interest. The alternate member appointed shall serve in the case until a final decision is made, and the alternate member shall have the same voting rights as a regular member of the Zoning Board of Appeals.
SECTION 3. AMENDMENT OF SUBSECTION 16-117(e) “REMOVAL.”
Subsection 16-117(e) of the Code of Ordinances, Aurelius Township, Michigan, shall be and are hereby amended to read as follows:
A member of the Zoning Board of Appeals may be removed by the Board of Trustees for misfeasance, malfeasance, or nonfeasance in office upon written charges and after a public hearing. A member shall disqualify himself or herself from a vote in which the member has a conflict of interest. Failure of a member to disqualify himself or herself from a vote in which the member has a conflict of interest constitutes malfeasance in office.
SECTION 4. ADDITION OF SUBSECTION 16-117(f) “PARTICIPATION IN PUBLIC HEARING OR VOTING PROHIBITED.”
Subsection 16-117(f) is added to Ordinance 39 and the Code of Ordinances, Aurelius Township, Michigan, to read as follows:
A member of the Zoning Board of Appeals who is also a member of the Planning Commission or the Board of Trustees shall not participate in a public hearing on or vote on the same matter that the member voted on as a member of the Planning Commission or the Board of Trustees. However, the member may consider and vote on other unrelated matters involving the same property.
SECTION 5. SAVINGS CLAUSE.
Except as specifically amended herein, all other provisions of the Aurelius Township Zoning Ordinance shall remain in full force and effect.
SECTION 6. SEVERABILITY.
The various parts, sentences, paragraphs, sections, and clauses of this Ordinance are hereby declared to be severable. If any part, sentence, paragraph, section, or clause of this Ordinance is adjudged unconstitutional or invalid by a court or administrative agency of competent jurisdiction, the unconstitutionality or invalidity shall not affect the constitutionality or validity of any remaining provisions of this Ordinance.
SECTION 7. REPEALER.
Any ordinances or parts thereof in conflict with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 8. EFFECTIVE DATE.
This Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon publication of notice of its adoption as provided by Act 110 of the Public Acts of 2006 (MCL 125.3101 et seq).
